Raphael
April 6, 1483 – April 6, 1520
The Pantheon - Rome, Italy

Raphael Sanzio was a master of painting and a highly influential part of the Italian Renaissance.  His work is renown for its beauty and perfection of form.

You cannot miss this grave - he is interred in the 3rd niche along the walls of the Pantheon below a statue entitled Madonna of the Rock.

Factoid:  Raphael's sarcophagus was a gift from Pope Gregory XVI which reads "Ille hic est Raffael, timuit quo sospite vinci, rerum magna parens et moriente mori", which means"Here lies the famous Raphael by whom Nature feared to be outdone while he lived, and when he died, feared herself to die."
