Oliver Wendell Holmes was a poet and physician of reknown, first becoming prominant in the former field with his poem Old Ironsides.

He was one of the first American poets to gain a serious amount of popularity versus their British counterparts.

Once again, Mount Auburn's free maps will direct you to any famous grave you might wish to see, including Charles Bulfinch, Thomas Bulfinch Buckminster Fuller, Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, Winslow Homer, Bernard Malamud and Mary Baker Eddy, in addition to some other historical figures you might find interesting (but that we missed!).

Factoid: Holmes coined the term "anesthesia ".
