- we hunt the dead

Zelda Sayre Fitzgerald
July 24, 1900 - March 10, 1948
St. Mary's - Rockville, MD

Zelda was the wife of 20s writer F. Scott Fitzgerald and is buried here in their family plot despite the fact that they were estranged.

She died in a fire at the Highland Mental Hospital in Asheville, North Carolina after having been institutionalized for Schizophrenia.  She had been in very frail mental health since 1930.

This stone's distinctive shape and size make it obvious once you gain access to St. Mary's graveyard.

Factoid:  The video game The Legend of Zelda and its title character Princess Zelda were named after Mrs. Fitzgerald.
