Trajan's Column
Trajan's Forum - Rome, Italy
Our Rating:

The Emperor Trajan erected his grand Forum sometime around the year 112 AD, and with it his column depicting his battles against the Dacians.  Spoils of war from these victories funded the building of this forum, column and market.

After the emperor's death in 117, the senate voted to have his ashes interred at the base of his column.  Though the ashes do not currently reside there, it is important to realize that the mortal remains of a great historical figure once rested there!

Who was interred here:
Trajan

Factoid: Trajan's wife Plotina was also interred with him beneath the column.  Unfortunately, she too has been disinterred.
